Sad Days

I have been thinking a lot about how precious life is. It is amazing how it can be all over in the blink of an eye. On Thursday, March 29th at 5:00AM Blaine and I lost a good friend and neighbour. Hanna had a major heart attack at about 2:00AM and passed away at 5:00AM. She was 83 years old, so she had a fairly long life and was very fortunate to still be living in her own home in a self-sufficient way. She was still able to get around just fine.

The thing that I am struggling with so much is the fact that there was absolutely no warning. Lacey and I just stopped in at Hanna's place the day before. I chatted with her for a few minutes and she played with, and held, Lacey like she loved to do. This was at approximately 6:30PM and Blaine and I were off to pick up a pizza for supper. When we left Hanna's, the last thing I said to her was "See you later Hanna... Have a good night". Everything was so normal. Now I am having a real hard time because it was so sudden and I had no time to prepare myself for this.

Hanna was a big part of Blaine's and my day to day life and now it feels like there is something huge missing. I miss her. She was always there... She was there if we needed help. She was there as good company anytime. She was always giving us stuff that she thought we could use. She was so generous with us. We liked to take care of her too. Blaine always cut her lawn, dropped off her cable bill payment, and picked things up from the store for her when she needed something. I spent time having tea with her and visiting. I tried to take Lacey over as much as I could because Lacey made Hanna so happy. In the summer Hanna and I would sit out on the front steps together for hours and visit while we watered the grass. Blaine would come out and we would all have some ice cream together. Hanna and I were always showing each other our flowers and new plants. Last summer I took her down to Top Crop and we had a great time buying our flowers together.

She has only been gone for 4 days but already there are so many things that I wish that I could tell her about. There are so many things that I was planning to do with or for her. Now I have a lot of sadness because she will never be here again. Farewell Hanna and thanks for being such a great neighbor and for becoming so much more. Thanks for being a great friend. Good-bye.
